"Ida" Wanna Believe in Evolution
FTB 54: “IDA” Wanna believe in Evolution.
This week “scientists” announced that they no longer can say the missing link has not been found upon the discovery of Ida, a 95% complete fossil of a lemur. It has been hailed by New York Daily News as the “Holy Grail of human evolution.” The media hype over this find was very premature and the excitement overemphasized. So what really has been found here?
Sky.com stated this of the missing link: “ the search has taken 200 years, but it was presented today.” It was called the “8th Wonder of the World,” and that it “finally confirms Charles Darwin’s theory of Evolution.” What I find humorous about these statements is that for years they have already been telling us that there are many missing links that have been discovered in the fossil record. Isn’t this an admission that everything they have been saying was a lie prior to this? Can we really even trust this announcement?
Since it is a fossil of a 1 foot, 9 inch, 9 month old lemur, which is about the equivalent of a 6 year old human, it was named Ida after Jorn Hurum’s (the fossil’s owner) 6 year old daughter. The fact is that this fossil was really found 25 years ago near Frankfurt Germany by an “amateur fossil hunter” and was later purchased by a “scientist.” Jorn Hurum and a team of Norway’s National History Museum have been secretly studying this fossil for the last two years. I find it interesting that such a find took two years to come out. Why? A couple of months ago I did a radio program on KFUO out of St. Louis, on which I warned to keep a watchful eye out, because with this being the Year of Darwin, we would be sure to hear many announcements of supposed evidence for evolution. It is no accident that this find is being made public now. The other reason for the timing of this propaganda release is money. There are already books published and now on the market upon the announcement this week. Others are seeing the same motivation as New York News and Features stated, “a vast and impressive website has been created in order to hype the discovery well beyond all reaches of common sense. According to lead scientist Jorn H. Hurum, ‘Any pop band is doing the same thing. Any athlete is doing the same thing. We have to start thinking the same way in science.’”
So what is important about this find? There is no question that it is an impressive fossil, in fact, it is the most complete primate fossil ever found. Prior to this, Lucy has been the bragging rights for evolutionists at 40% of the skeleton found. Many evolutionists claim Lucy was really just a chimpanzee but this is not often reported. (We carry a great DVD called Lucy, She’s no Lady if you want more information on that propaganda.) However, a near complete skeleton doesn’t make Ida a missing link. The truth is, not only has the missing link not been found, but the entire chain is still missing. Perhaps because it never existed to begin with! The very word “missing link” is a propaganda term to imply there is something to be found. Ida’s well preserved fossil has “human like nails” not claws. This isn’t very impressive evidence of evolution. I have owned monkeys and they have finger nails too. This doesn’t mean they are evolving into human kind, it simply means there is a common design among the Designer’s creation. It was also stated that the shape of the talus bone (bone in the ankle just above the heel bone) in the foot of Ida is similar to what humans still have in our feet. Again, this is no big deal because this is a common shape among primates and shows similar design, not evolution. Finally, they actually could see the remains of the food eaten inside of Ida’s stomach. Again, all this proves is that Ida ate food. The implication is to show how well preserved this fossil is, however, this implication could be evidence of Noah’s Flood. Fossils don’t form by animals dying and lying around. They must be buried immediately in water and mud and removed from the oxygen in the air to turn into fossils. This is why so many of the interpretations of fossil beds we find involve lakes, tar pits, tidal waves etc. However, we don’t have animals fossilizing in tar pits and lakes today. When they die scavengers eat them up and they don’t get buried quickly enough. Granted, a tidal wave could provide the conditions needed for fossils to form, however, many of these fossil beds are in the middle of the continents. Doesn’t Noah’s Flood provide a better explanation?
Another problem we must realize is that all of this hype is meaningless when the evolutionists can’t explain how life originated to begin with. DNA and RNA really prove evolution could not happen because it goes against known laws of science like the first and second law of thermodynamics (see newsletter archives for more information.) In our textbooks they tell us life came from non-living material and then a few pages later they tell us that the law of biogenesis states that life can not come from non-life. I was debating some professors at a University in Nebraska and after no one could answer the questions I was posing, one professor said, “Let’s not talk about DNA and RNA but let’s bring it up to the period of the trilobites and the fossil record.” The problem is we can’t debate the fossil record without a viable explanation of how the fossil record came to be in the first place.
They say Ida is 47 million years old from the Eocene era “when tropical forests reached the poles.” How did they reach this date? By dating the rocks of the volcano she was found in. I go into greater detail on these dating methods on one of our DVD’s, however, suffice it to say here that these dating methods are very flawed. In fact, we have dated a number of volcanoes that we know when they erupted and how old they are. In every case the dating methods are millions of years off. One example is Mount St. Helens which exploded in 1980. They dated the lava dome inside the crater when it was less than 20 years old and it dated anywhere from .35 to 2.8 million years old. Can we really trust these dating methods? As I discuss on our DVD, Dinosaurs, the Ice-Age and the Pre-Flood World, the time before Noah’s Flood was a time of vast vegetation that we see in the fossil record. The Bible indicates a firmament that was placed in the sky that gives good reason for the “tropical forests reaching the poles.”
Reading article upon article and watching video clip upon video clip of Ida’s discovery, I found not one single piece of evidence suggesting this could be a missing link. The real hype is that they think this is more of an intermediate from a lemur to a monkey which then later turned into human beings. Therefore, this is a far cry from proving “human evolution.” Besides, this isn’t evidence, that is an interpretation and can not be called science. For something to be science we have to be able to observe it today, but we don’t see evolution happening today. If you found a fossil of a duck and a goose in the fossil record and we didn’t have them alive today, the evolutionists would certainly interpret those fossils as intermediates. They would say the duck was clearly evolving into a goose whose neck became longer to see over the reeds and better protect itself from approaching predators. In addition, the larger body was an adaptation to discourage the predators that were preying upon the smaller body size. Of course this would be a ridiculous fairy tale, but no less crazy than the stories we are hearing today from the interpretations of the fossil record.
Darwin said, “If my theory (about slow gradual changes) be true, numberless intermediate varieties… must assuredly have existed” (Origin of Species, 1859, p. 211). Luther Sunderland once asked evolutionists what evidence they had for their theory of evolution and even though the British Museum of Natural History has the largest fossil collection in the world no evidence can be found even there. When Colin Paterson, the senior paleontologist of the British Museum of Natural History was asked by Sunderland why he did not show the missing links in his book he said: “I fully agree with your comments on the lack of evolutionary transitions in my book. If I knew of any, fossil or living, I would certainly have included them. I will lay it on the line—there is not one such fossil…” (Darwin’s Enigma 1988 p. 89). Even the famous evolutionist, Stephen J. Gould once said, “The absence of fossil evidence for intermediary stages…has been a persistent and nagging problem for… evolution.” (Evolution Now p. 140). Today, even after the big announcement this week, we are still in the same boat!
Ephesians 3:18 shares hope that, “ we may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the length and depth and breadth and height and to understand the love of Christ which passeth knowledge.” Only in Christ Jesus and with His Spirit can man understand the Truth and love found in Jesus. All this supposed knowledge has blinded men to the truth about the knowledge of salvation and true science. The Bible states in Acts 17:26, however, that God, “Hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.” Clearly, we do not come from lemurs and monkeys, but rather from one man, Adam, and his blood. We share not only his blood but the original sin that came about in the Garden of Eden through his disobedience to God, bringing physical and spiritual death that can only be redeemed through one Man Jesus Christ and His blood. Praise God for that!
